The hotel is actually made up of three houses and towers: the old tower, the Kraiterhaus with its round tower, the tower of the owl, and the Wagenhaus. Each house and tower is unique in style and architecture. The terraces give us a wonderful view.

The Turm, the old tower, dates back to the 13th century, and has over the centuries served as fortification, courthouse, and jail, before being turned into the inn our guests have come to love. The local chronicles have it that in the wintertime, the peasants and serfs of the area deliberately waited for the snow to block their paths home, so they could stay at the Turmwirt for days and play cards, drink, argue, share a laugh and give each other a good hiding.

The players took turns in taking short breaks for a nap on the bench. Before they left, each had the right to a proper meal on the house: and necessary that was too, what with facing the long hard way home and, worse, their wives' wrath once at home. Many things may have changed since those times, but one thing has survived to this day: the warm and welcoming atmosphere that makes people never want to leave.

Art at the Romantik Hotel Turm

Art at the Romantik Hotel Turm: have a stroll around the hotel and you'll literally stumble over pieces of work by Joseph Beuys, Oskar Kokoschka, Otto Dix, Paul Klee, Giorgio de Chirico, or Renato Guttuso. Karl Pramstrahler has, over the years, assembled quite an impressive collection of about 2000 oil paintings, watercolour paintings and lithographs. Needless to say there is not enough space on the walls of the hotel to hang them all.

Karl was also a very dedicated sponsor of yet unknown artists and young talents. We would like to continue with this tradition: on the 1st of June 2005 our own art gallery was opened, where artists can show their works.
