One of the most spectacular and innovative outdoor playgrounds in the Alpine region has opened its doors in May 2010. The 6.5 ha location combines nature and high-tech to give an extraordinary recreational experience.
Ötztal Valley
AREA 47: Outdoor fans in search of adventure and adrenaline are well-advised to remember this name. The name for one of Tyrol's most awaited touristic projects derives from its geographic location, i.e. the coordinates of the 47th degree of latitude and the 11th degree of longitude. Located at the entrance to the Ötztal Valley between Haiming, Sautens and Roppen, AREA 47 is embedded in a beautiful natural landscape at the confluence of the Ötztaler Ache and Inn Rivers.
The new season opening brings a new innovation: From April on it’s possible to blob. But how does it work? On the water floats a Blob, a huge inflated rubber tube. The „Blobber“ sits on one end of the Blob, then the „Jumper“ jumps from a higher platform and lands on the other end of the Blob, catapulting the „Blobber“ metre high in the air and then landing in the water.
Water fun unlimited
The heart of the 6.5 ha large location is a swimming lake (approx. 7000 sqm) which is surrounded by a huge green lawn offering place for approx. 1500 swimmers and sun worshippers. All major facilities of the camp are located around the scenic lake. AREA 47's Water World features a thrilling waterslide park, an adjustable diving platform with a maximum height of 27 metres, crazy water ramps for spectacular stunts and a water trampoline for creative moves into the lake below. Equally suitable for breathtaking splashdowns are the “Deep Water Soling” climbing wall and the two “Slacklines” across the water. Moreover, the Water World offers beach volleyball and beach soccer courts..
Climbers’ paradise
AREA 47’s climbers’ paradise delivers exactly as its name states. Enthusiasts can test their limits on Austria's highest artificial climbing wall, featuring a via ferrata, speed climbing routes, high jump obstacles and a boulder cave. Those who are more courageous can balance 27 metres above the ground on the challenging high rope course or try their luck on the demanding Slackline. If you prefer an even more dizzy height we recommend a swing across the Ötztaler Ache with the 30 metre high “Megaswing” or a ride down the 350 metre long “Flying Fox”.
Event Locations
A bird's eye view of AREA 47 gives an impression of its main attractions. Among the camp's event locations are a 3,600 sqm-sized event hall which sets up the stage for concerts, international sport events and hosts up to 8000 people. A Saloon Sports Bar, with a capacity of up to 400 people, is the setting for “smaller” cabaret and art events. Last but not least, hungry visitors of the swimming lake and Water Area can enjoy delicious meals on the sun terrace of the Lakeside Restaurant.
Living close to nature in traditional Lodges
Located on the banks of the Ötztaler Ache, AREA 47 also offers “close to nature” accommodation for up to 250 guests. Staying overnight in Tyrolean-style log cabins or in authentic Indian tepees is a truly unique experience. Right next to the adventure lodges you find the heart of AREA 47's sporting facilities. Outdoor fans can choose from a wide range of professionally guided outdoor activities. Among them are, for example, rafting and kayaking trips on the Ötztaler Ache or Inn River, canyoning and climbing tours through the picturesque gorges of the Ötztal mountains, or a thrilling ride on the MTB downhill trail.
Prominent Business Partners
Hansi Neuner, CEO and mastermind of AREA 47, has been working on the development and realization of the project for more than seven years. In May 2010, “the ultimate outdoor playground” finally opened its doors. However, this gigantic outdoor project would not have been possible without the help of prominent business partners and sponsors. With the Sölden Ski lift company and Stiegl private brewery, AREA 47 has found its two main partners.
Additional sponsors are Red Bull, sports article giant Adidas and motorcycle manufacturer KTM. Hansi Neuner puts the importance of this extraordinary collaboration in a nutshell: “All summer long, AREA 47 will be the number one hotspot for big sport, music and outdoor events. Our business partners Red Bull, Adidas and KTM will contribute their know-how and international networks. What makes our location unique is the number of different activities and events taking place. This cannot be found anywhere else in the world.”
